Know the neighborhood

Choosing a neighbourhood is a personal decision that often hinges on hundreds of different factors. Here are some tips:

Walk or drive around the neighbourhood both during the day and at night.
Check the availability of community amenities such as public transportation, parks, stores, churches and schools. If you have school-age children, you may even want to visit the schools and daycare centers.
Travel the new driving route to and from work during the appropriate times to see what traffic is like.
Talk to neighbours. They are a valuable source for community information.
